Join our team

We are seeking a passionate and talented individual to join our team as a part-time (likely 40–60%) strings orchestra teacher. The successful candidate will lead the school’s strings program, providing instruction in string instruments and nurturing students' technical and musical growth.

Your key responsibilities as a strings teacher include:
  • Integrating Christian worldview and heart-forming practices into your lesson planning, teaching, and classroom practices
  • Teaching individual and ensemble strings classes to students from grades 3 to 12
  • Preparing students for performances, festivals, and assessments
  • Collaborating with other faculty members to support the overall music and arts program
  • Maintaining and managing instruments and other resources
  • Fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to Christian values, a deep understanding of music education, and the versatility to contribute to our performing arts program.

You will be part of a supportive team that greatly cares about creating an engaging and supportive school environment that actively seeks to develop our students’ learning and growth by integrating Christian perspectives into all aspects of teaching the BC curriculum.

As a teacher at VCS, you are expected to:

  • Contribute to the fantastic culture and community of VCS by working cooperatively with colleagues and participating in staff engagement and worship activities
  • Participate fully in student-learning and extra-curricular activities outside of the school day
  • Be flexible and open to teaching additional courses
  • Participate in professional development that supports the ongoing pursuit of excellence in educational pedagogy and teaching through the lens of a Christian worldview
  • Conduct rehearsals and prepare students for performances which often occur outside of normal school hours
  • Collaborate with other performing arts teachers
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Support and uphold the school's Christian values

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you: 
  • Will have a teaching certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch of the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care (or have the ability to obtain it)
  • Are a professing Christian who regularly attends a Christian church community and are willing to commit to VCS’s mission, vision, and community standards
  • Will have familiarity with the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care curriculum
  • Have a Bachelor's degree (or Master’s degree) in music education or related field
  • Are proficient in strings instrumentation and ensemble direction

In addition to the above requirements, the following knowledge and experience would be assets: 
  • Have a strong working knowledge of current pedagogy, sound assessment practices, and learning empowered by technology

*Please note that the salary range above reflects a full-time teacher position; the actual salary for this position will be pro-rated based on the final part-time teaching percentage.*

Compensation

$56,016.00 - $100,902.00 per year
